PRAXIS IS HERE TO SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS IN SCIENCE EDUCATION AND LITERACY

Praxis can provide hands-on science resources and volunteers to share their scientific expertise with your class. Our educational resources are relevant to the Alberta curriculum and are designed to be appropriate for their curricular grade levels (but can be adapted easily by the teacher). Kits are loaned for 2-week periods and are delivered to your school (or local Public Library). *Note that due to Covid-19 we have suspended our resource lending program*

Praxis can help with your school’s science fair and can deliver the Science Fair 101 program at your school to help children understand the scientific method and help them to develop successful science fair projects. We can also help students find community mentors for their science fair projects. Praxis helps organize the annual Kiwanis Southeast Alberta Science Fair and facilitates sending winners to the Canada Wide Science Fair.

Do you have grade 9 students interested in STEM? Encourage them participate in Praxis’ education and career exploration days: Operation Minerva (for girls) and Operation Thoth (for boys). You can also direct your students to the Praxis Student Page where they can find links to these programs.

Keep up-to-date with all of our science events by following our Events page.

Don’t forget to check out our Science Smarts blog, where we share articles and activities from over 10 years of writing the Science Smarts column for the Medicine Hat News, and our Science Exposed (will this have a link?) video series, in cooperation with Shaw TV.

Passionate about science education and literacy? Consider becoming involved with the Praxis Science Outreach Society as a volunteer. We are always looking for volunteers to:

·         Act as science mentors and educators.

·         Suggest ideas for new science kits.

·         Promote and organize in-school science fairs.

·         Encourage students to compete at our regional science fair.

·         Become a member of our Board of Directors.

Take a look at our volunteer page to find more information.

We hope you will consider donating to keep Praxis running. Praxis is a charitable organization, supported by grants, sponsorships, donations and other fundraising. All money raised stays in our local community.
