SCIENCE FAIR 2025

MORE ABOUT Science Fair

The Regional Science Fair is held in Medicine Hat and takes place in late March. Check back here for the 2025 fair information. Students from schools across our region compete at the elementary (grades 4-6), junior (grades 7-8), intermediate (grades 9-10), and senior (grades 11-12) levels. Participants in all grade categories are eligible to win certificates, prizes, and special awards. Judging is provided by scientists, engineers, and other professionals under the supervision of the Chief Judge.

A science fair project helps to foster a student’s interest in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM). It introduces and develops concepts such as the scientific method, project management, data collection and analysis, research methods, and public speaking. For more information on how to develop effective projects and engage with students, please download the Science Fair 101 Manual.

Each year up to five students at the junior, intermediate, and senior levels are selected to compete at the Canada Wide Science Fair (CWSF). At CWSF you would be taking part in competitions, field trips, and social opportunities with approximately 500 of the top young scientists in Canada. As part of Team Alberta, the expenses, accommodations, and travel will be covered for CWSF! Chaperones accompany our students to CWSF competitions which are organized by Youth Science Canada and held in major cities across Canada. This opportunity provides students with a chance to win national level prizes and scholarships at major universities.

CWSF takes place each year during the last week of May. Youth Science Canada has announced that the 2025 fair will take place in Fredericton from May 31-June 7, 2025.

The 2025 Regional Science Fair will be in-person. Registration and more information is available at the regional fair website or the Science Fair Committee (contact Peter Wallis at hyperion@telusplanet.net).
