Science Challenge 2022

SCIENCE CHALLENGE 2022

Calling ALL Grades 4-12 students in southeastern Alberta

Let’s get started thinking about SCIENCE FAIR

It is that time of the year! Science Fair is fast approaching. The Kiwanis Regional Science Fair would like to challenge YOU in the month of February The hardest part of getting started with SCIENCE FAIR is picking a topic and we want to get you thinking about what you can do this February as we prepare for the Regional Science Fair in March.

Week #1: February 1 – 5, 2022

Let’s Get Creative

Draw what science means to you. Do you have an invention you want to showcase? Is science the beauty of nature that inspires your creativity every day. This is entirely up to you, through your art project (drawing, sculpture or something similar) show us the meaning of science. Send us a photo of your creation.

Week #2: February 6 – 12, 2022

Photography

There are a number of businesses in southeastern Alberta that have cutting edge research, products and ideas that are in the STEM field. Take a picture of one of these businesses and in a short paragraph tell us what it is that business does in our community.

Week #3: February 13-19, 2022

Favorite Canadian Scientist

Canada has some VERY famous scientists. Who are they? Dive into a bit of research (no more than one page in length) and discover one of these amazing scientists and how they have shaped the scientific community right here in our own country. Are there any famous scientists that grew up in southeastern Alberta (hint: he won a Nobel Prize and there was a science wing named after him at a local high school). For example, who is Alexander Graham Bell? Who invented insulin? Do you have a favorite scientist that has inspired you? Is there someone you want to learn about? For example, who is Donna Strickland?

Week #4: February 20-26, 2022

Experiment Ideas

Send us a three to five minute video of yourself doing your favorite experiment. What interests you? Do you have a scientific question that you would like to find the answer to? Use your scientific skills and share with us something exciting. You never know, we may feature this experiment at one of our upcoming events!
