Change in Personnel at Praxis
I am pleased to announce the appointments of Tracy Warwick and Patty Rooks as my replacements when I re-retire on August 15, 2013. Please join me in wishing them all the best as they take on the important task of promoting STEM in our region. I also would like to thank all the people and organizations who have helped me in this role these past two years.

On August 2nd Michelle is donating 12" of her waist long hair as a fundraiser in support of the Praxis Society. You can contribute by donating your pledging here:
(please add a notation like "Michelle's hair cut" in the comment section if you are using the on-line donate button.)
You may also donate through her Facebook Event's Page. Perhaps you'll consider printing out a copy of the pledge form to circulate among your colleagues at work or friends and neighbours to help her raise the funds for this worthy cause. 100% of the funds raised will be used to support Science & Technology education in our community. Donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt. The hair will be donated to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths so they can make wigs for people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments.
Attention all parents:
As the school year draws to a close Medicine Hat College will once again host Summer Camps for Kids but this year they will introduce a number of new ones targeting the ‘tween and teen age groups. New this year will be scholarships to two camps geared towards the older kids (application form).
Praxis supplies support materials for many of their Science Camps ever since their inception at MHC. We are pleased to provide this support for science education in our community.
Did you know they do drivers ed. and athletic camps too? Parents if you are wondering how to tear your kids away from the “electronic babysitters” and get them active, engaged and learning, check out:

Praxis Operation Thoth
Now taking applications for Operation Thoth.
On April 19th Praxis will host a daylong conference for 30 grade 9 boys called Operation Thoth. Like our recently successful Operation Minerva for grade 9 girls the major objective of this conference is to encourage young men in South East Alberta to consider Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics related careers and to demonstrate the importance of enrolling in these courses in high school to achieve these ends. The conference consists of on-site visit of the Science and Power Engineering facilities at Medicine Hat College in the morning as well as on-site tours at Meggitt and Cancarb in the afternoon. Because Operation Thoth is open to all grade 9 male students in South East Alberta and is limited to the first 30 applicants, the potential participants need to apply early to avoid disappointment.

Kiwanis South East Alberta Regional Science Fair
On March 15th Praxis hosted a daylong conference for 56 grade 9 girls called Operation Minerva 2013 (follow this link to view the pictures from this year's event).
The major objective of this conference was to encourage young women in South East Alberta to consider Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics related careers and to demonstrate the importance of enrolling in these courses in high school to achieve these ends. The conference consisted of on-site job shadowing of female role models in the morning as well as workshops at Medicine Hat High School in the afternoon. Because Operation Minerva was open to all grade 9 female students in South East Alberta and was limited to the first 60 applicants, the participants needed to apply early to avoid disappointment. For more information about Operation Minerva please see our website at:http://praxismedhat.com/services-operation-minerva; contact us at Praxis@Praxismh.ca; or talk to a grade 9 Math or Science teacher or talk to your Counsellor.
